Around 11 a.m., Moe picked me up in his truck. Dennis, Denzel, Shar, and Jay, and I left Cebu City for a bit of an excursion. It felt like a jailbreak since we’d all been on Enhanced Community Quarantine for more than two months. We headed out of the city proper and into the countryside. No particular destination in mind, we joyfully stopped and smelled the roses, took pictures, and met strangers who quickly turned into new friends.

Today was one of those days that you can’t plan for. Other than the departure time, nothing else was planned. We simply went with the flow and allowed things to unfold naturally.

Today, Saturday, June 6, 2020, I am grateful that:

Nicole and I had a conversation earlier. She’d reached out to offer congratulations on a milestone. Thirty three years of not doing or doing anything is quite a feat, in the eyes of most, so she’d given me a call. We’ve done the same thing for each other for about a decade and it was good to continue that tradition among us.

Moe took time to swing by and pick me up. We’d made a similar excursion on Good Friday 2019, but this time we were in a car and I got to see more. Last time, my first time riding a motorcycle, I missed a few things as I was too busy concentrating on not falling.

I got a chance to meet Jay, Denzel, and Shar. Denzel’s been teaching English in China for several years, a native Canadian and man of color, it was great to see others of color travelling and immersing themselves in other cultures. Shar and Jay both are locals and it’s always great to interact with locals and learn more about the culture through the eyes of those living what seems strange to me as normal live for them.

When’s the last time you were spontaneous?

Can you just go? Forget about planning and leave with a few people close to you and make some memories. Can you do that today?

Be Great. Be Grateful!!!

If you feel this will help you or someone you know, please share to your timeline.
